Blulog System Aids Ronald McDonald House with Food Safety

Most people know the general mission of Ronald McDonald Houses – to allow families to stay together while they focus on the healing of sick children at a critical time.  At the Ronald McDonald House in Louisville, Kentucky, that mission is no different.

“Our Ronald McDonald House is built on the idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on their child’s recovery – not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal, or where they will lay their head at night to rest,” says Jana Goemmer, Director of Programs and Facilities, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Kentuckiana.

One of the great services provided by this Ronald McDonald House, is the availability of a commercial kitchen, where food is prepared nightly by volunteers.  The kitchen has several commercial refrigerators and freezers for food storage.

“We operate our meal program from a commercial kitchen space. The kitchen is regulated by the local food and health department; therefore, it is of upmost importance that we ensure proper temperatures in both our fridge and freezers.”

Previously, the RMHC of Kentuckiana performed manual temperature recordings each evening and maintained a manual log of temperatures from the refrigerators and freezers for the health department.  This process was labor intensive and prone to human error.  To alleviate these issues, RMHC of Kentuckiana, had the opportunity to install a Blulog wireless temperature monitoring system from BluLine Solutions in their commercial kitchen.

“Prior to my initial contact with BluLine, I spoke to another RMHC house that used their Blulog system and also read online about the company and product,” explains Goemmer.  The positive reviews from the other RMHC house, low recurring costs, and ease of use convinced RMHC of Kentuckiana to move forward with the Blulog system.  “With the implementation of the Blulog system, we are now able to see real time temperature reports and are able to respond to appliance failures more quickly. I find (the Blulog system) to be an extremely useful tool, especially when providing food service to the public.”

“Helping a wonderful organization like the Ronald McDonald House of Kentuckiana is a rewarding experience,” says Ted Wilkes of BluLine Solutions. “The service that the house provides to families is invaluable.  It’s heartwarming to know that our system is helping a charity that helps so many others.”

Goemmer adds, “Our experience with BluLine has been very positive.  We appreciate the gracious and kind support to our organization and ensuring our families’ food safety.”
